Starting from Lausanne we followed the northern side of Alps via Thun (LSZW) - Schwytz - Schänis - Hoenems and EUR. The flight took place April 12th, the weather was simply a dream.
Below, the Churfisten a typical set of mountains in Apenzell (Toggenburg).

Difficult to establish contact with Wien info for the transit over Hohenems, better communication with Munich info. Salzburg TWR asked for the simplest VFR route, which is to follow the highway to the entry point W. Below, the highway to W.

From W entry point, the APT cannot finally be seen but not the city because of a hill just between the APT and the city, on which the citadel is located and can be seen in the picture below (downwind 34).

Very convenient bus stop brought us to the city in about 20 minutes, easy and friendly handling. Quickly in place to benefit from the fascinating city of Salzburg, below the Mirabell castle and a view over the citadel.

From the citadel a romantic view over the
old town, left bank of the Salzach river.

The APT can only be seen from the top of the hill, below as seen from the citadel, RWY 34 stretch from left to right, GA is in the building at the very right of the image .

Salzburg worth a visit, especially outside the big festivals and the holidays, concerts take place very often even outside the festival. Worth to climb to the "Nonnberg" and the "capuzinberg" to the little castle. Below of view over the "nonnberg" and the austrian alps towards Graz.

This is the ACFT, a D40D with tdi Thielert engine derived from the Class A mercedes, 21 liters/hour @ 120kts. Lausanne - Salzburg = 2:25 h of flight and only 50 liters of JET A1.
