Fertöszentmiklos LHFM (St Nicolas)

Starting from Sion we flew to Samedan, then to the NDB of KTI where we called Innsbruck TWR. We were requested to switched to Innsbruck radar and asked our intended route for transit. We selected a south transit to better see the city. After the transit, the mountains blocked RDO transmission and Innsbruck asked another aircraft to relay a message, which was made in German. This was  one situation where it worth to know some foreign languages !

Passing by the austrian Alps, probably here the Gross Venediger. Efficient and precise control of Wien info.

Suddenly, the Alps disappeared or plunged into the ground (yes, really), the plains of Hungary appeared and we passed under Wien south control wich followed us quite precisely. Then we call Budapest info to annouce the border crossing and were requested to call back when the airport was insight. 2 minutes later we saw the RWY, the airport being located quite close to the austrian border..

The lovely airport LHFM provides customs clearance and has a little restaurant. WWY is  985m asphalt services F-3. The airport is a good base to start exploring the area, for instance the visit of the Estherazy castle below and the very nice and relaxing city of Sopron. Try the local wines and if possible go close to the Neusiedlersee to have goulash of catfish.
